Difficult Conversations

Employees and managers around the world fear the dreaded “performance review” and therein lies the main problem: we have institutionalised the delivering and receiving of feedback.

Comments are saved and notes are documented about a person’s performance throughout the year. Then, the manager brings an unfortunate employee into the office and unloads twelve months of “constructive criticism” onto them. It’s no wonder why this process leads to apprehension and fright.

This is the wrong emotional environment in which to discuss performance, introduce suggestions for improvements, and talk about goals for the future. This is a shame because meaningful feedback is key to engaging your people and keeping them focused.

When done correctly and with the right intentions, difficult conversations can lead to exceptional performance. Feedback needs to be delivered carefully and frequently, and this takes practice to get it right.

Learning at work week. Please join us for an engaging, interactive, highly relevant introduction to Managing Feedback & Difficult Conversations where we will look at ways to cultivate connections to ensure trust is built and feedback can be delivered positively.

We’ll look at:

  • Building trust and cultivating connections
  • Listening with true intent to understand
  • Delivering feedback with empathy that encourages everyone to fulfil their potential
