Writing and Presenting to Influence - Creative Business Writing and Presentation Skills
Why, oh why?
Knowing 'WHY' has to be Step 1 of all effective communications. Making explicit the steps that follow is what we're about.
I wonder what our communications would be like if we always held their purpose to the fore?
They would certainly be fantastically efficient.
Maybe it would mean we would be less honest - though not necessarily.
Maybe it would require us to act and think like robots - though not if we remained human.
Maybe it would mean that those who listen to us (or those who read our words) would be truly inspired or clearly informed though only if we were clear and thoughtful in crafting our words.
Knee-jerk outpourings of our agendas
Emotional outbursts of our stuff
Intellectual regurgitations of our knowledge
are just that - all singing, all dancing outpourings, outbursts and regurgitations. If they achieve their intended outcomes, then fine if not, clearly it's worth asking ourselves again what purpose they really serve.
