Performance Management

For me it's always been the people, not the job. It was a revelation to come to Impact Factory where people ARE the job. Little did I expect the level of personal development it would also offer.

After gaining a string of A grade Highers courtesy of Hutchesons Grammar School, I left my native Glasgow for London to study acting at Rose Bruford college and left with a BA Hons. I was able to play a great range of parts, from the sublime to the ridiculous. I was Moll Flanders... then the front end of a pantomime horse. I was the devil in a new play by Alan Ayckbourn and a policewoman hunting Gary Linneker on one of 'those' adverts.

I had great roles in the original London casts of Sondheim and Lloyd Webber shows, and a wonderful sideline singing Gershwin with the late Larry Adler, which led to trips round the world as a solo artist on the QE2. I have also presented many corporate videos, and met my husband while we were flying on wires in Marrakech, launching a new car for General Motors.

Curiosity and business in the blood from my father meant that all this was not enough. So, alongside my acting career was my double life - trying other businesses for size to see what they were all about: managing a busy London restaurant; running my own successful direct sales business with a team of busy working mums; gaining a PR Diploma and organising events. I also started my own charity 'Mumsaid' which has so far held a few auctions and we have great hopes!

Teaching was the big find - hugely satisfying, and using everything I'd picked up along the way. Teaching acting and voice to an age range of 18 to 80 required all my resources of creativity and enthusiasm, but offered huge insight into the way we work and why we do what we do. Now I have two young children it seems to have even more resonance. My experience with them is frequently drawn on in the training room!

At Impact Factory I can cherry-pick from the three main strands of my working life performance, teaching and business. I thrive on the incredible mix of people who come through our doors, each with their own story. All too often we take our own skills and abilities for granted and it is wonderful to be in a position to help people realise how brilliant and capable they are.

At Impact Factory I have worked with a wide range of clients including HMPS, Somerfield and Lucky Voice. My previous work experience and desire for everyone to have a supportive workplace pull me towards our Performance Management, Conflict Management, Presentation, Train the Trainer and Communication courses. Having trained countless frontline staff, I am a champion of good Customer Service it is so easy to get rightand disastrous when it's wrong. I can relate to each and every delegate as over the years I've seen it all!
