General Experience and Approach
My time in radio spanned 13 years starting off at the ripe old age of 22, working the late night producer shift. After a stint there I moved on to write, research and produce the Morning Drive Show and the Mid-Morning Show on CFUN Radio In Vancouver, Canadaa current affairs talk station.During that time I worked with hundreds of hosts and guests to help them get their message across on air. Watch the evening news and you'll see just how much (or rather, just how little) time you've got to get that message over.
There's a rumor in radio that a presenter has less than 5 seconds to engage the audience before the audience flicks the dial. That may or may not be true, but what is true is whether you're a guest or a host, if you don't give people a reason to listen they won't.
That reason could be the content, but more likely it'll be the way you deliver it.
I'm not saying we all need to have the flair of Barrack Obama to get people to listen to us after all think if everyone you saw on TV or heard on radio had that same flair, how long would it take for it even Obama's deliver to seem ordinary?
What I'm talking about is bringing your personality to air. I'm talking about appearing on air the way you do when you're talking in an environment you feel comfortable in. OK, so when you're on air there's a whole lot more people watching or listening to you... how might you perform if you could get that thought out of your heads?
Being authentically you on air... that's what we'll work on at Impact Factory. It's the easiest way I know of getting a message across on air.
