Modern-day headhunters are more like marriage brokers or matchmakers: they join up the right person for the right job and vice versa.

They want to feel confident that when they recommend you to an organisation that they are sending the best possible candidate for the job.
However, it is a two-way process and you also need to be rigorous in the questions you ask the headhunters to ensure that they send you to the job interviews you want. In other words, make sure they don't act like pushy estate agents, who will show you any property on the books even if it's completely wrong for you.
