Julie Wales – Executive Presentation Skills Coach
Executive Presentation Coaching
The Top 10 Biggest Fears Survey (conducted by whoever thought it was worth knowing) reveals some reassuring thoughts for those of us offering Presentation Skills training. (Also, for those of us who might appreciate knowing that they are not alone).Above Fear of Flying, Fear of Spiders, Fear of Heights and (yes dear reader) above Fear of Death, was apparently Downright Terror of Public Speaking. Presenting to our peers being right up there! Apparently, some of us feel we would rather die.
That person, however, may not be you. As an experienced or executive person clearly you haven't made too much of a hash of your communications thus far, so why are you reading this page? It may be that:
-
* You have never experienced constructive one-to-one feedback on your delivery style.
* You'd like to look at ways to 'troubleshoot' more tricky presenting scenarios.
* You're already very confident and capable in that respect, but would like an injection of further creative and fresh ideas.
* You'd like to delve into more psychological territory to ensure that you truly influence and persuade others.
* You'd welcome a second opinion on how you could craft your content most creatively.
Working from the premise that you've already got a unique communication style that works – we will focus on ways to further develop your presenting approach.
Finessing your presentation itself, may be about finding enticing hooks or using effective structures which build to engage. It may include using storyboards, if you don't already, to help focus the presentation journey you'd like to take your audience on.
Our experience, partly emerging from our own past and painful presentation howlers means we are offering a relaxed, human and supportive approach too.
Presentation skills, in their widest sense, represent one of our company Aces. Whether in groups, or via one-to-one Executive Presentation coaching, our take is to offer professional presenters further choices, unpicking and practising them together.
My Approach as an Executive Coach
My professional background (a fuller version of which is mentioned elsewhere: Julie Wales Impact Factory Partner Biography) draws from teaching creative writing, to theatre directing, from editing and publishing to reporting and broadcast journalism. As a result, there's lots we can unpick together in terms of crafting words and stories.I am fascinated by everything which plays a part in the way we successfully influence others, including the way we choose to present ourselves. Certainly, as a partner at Impact Factory, we are all steeped in the culture and psychology of what makes someone buy into your ideas.
Most of us know already that even the most brilliantly constructed presentations can go down like a cup of cold whatever if we don't think about how they are delivered. So, how do you already hook and engage your audience, rather than talk at them?
Whether you want to appear dynamic or whether you need to come across as relaxed or super slick, we can also explore ways to hook your audiences, as well as ways to dispel even the most cynical resistance. Clearly our journey revolves around your specific wants and needs.
From pushing the boundaries or deliberately confounding their expectations for effect, to ensuring that you earn their trust, respect and 'buy in' - we can explore everything you may need to consider to achieve the impact you seek.
The trick will be in finding those ways that will connect with your specific audience on the day. And the ultimate trick? That will be in finding those things that are do-able, sustainable and resonate with you as a unique presenter.
