Empathy

For empathy read getting on with people by seeing it from another point of view. Read less stressful life, read fewer arguments and more agreement.

Read moving forward by not getting stuck in the middle.

We could all use and make use of a little more empathy in our business and personal dealings.

It's the oil that stops relationships from seizing up and smoothes the way to getting things understood, done, moved along.

So how do you achieve empathy without it appearing gushy, slushy and sycophantic?

Here are a few pointers.

Some of it's down to enhancing your listening skills by realising the effect that different styles of listening send out different signals.

We can help you see that the listener in a conversation has just as much power to shape the communication as the speaker, probably more.

It's an old soft skills chestnut, but body language is key to how we transmit and receive information between people.

Did you know that only about 10% of communication is down to the actual words we use?

So what the other 90% taken up with?
