Here's a taste of who's already doing it.
People may be talking about Creativity and Innovation, but who's actually beating the recession by thinking creatively already?

Amazon came top in Business Weeks survey of companies that offer the best and most innovative customer service. They saw net sales increase by 18 percent last quarter, and profit jumped by 9 percent. Amazon is creative in the way it provides value and convenience, from the packaging that their products arrive in to the opportunities for customers to send in feedback. As a result their profits continue to grow.
Verizon's profits rose by 15% in the final quarter of 2008 and the number of Verizon wireless subscribers grew by 1.4 million. This is because Verizon have focused on innovating their Broadband service and investing in their FIOS Fibre Optic Network. The company can now offer a better TV and high-speed Internet package than any of its competitors. And of course there's the ever-present Google that continually innovates with one exciting initiative after another. They do this by allowing their people to work on whatever they choose for 20% of the time they spend at work. As a result, their people have used that time for their own benefit and also produced Gmail, Google news, Google Sky and Google Earth as well as an accessible search facility for the visually impaired.
So what's the thinking behind the 20% principle?
It is in fact based on the 'Pareto's Law,' or the 80-20 rule, which states that actions and behaviours totalling around 20% cause 80% of the effects. This was further explored and restated by Malcolm Gladwell in The Tipping Point as "The Law of the Few", which asserts that 20 percent of people are responsible for 80 percent of the influence in a group, organisation or society.
