Fiona Morrison – Assertiveness and Creative Business Writing

Assertiveness Training and Creative Business Writing

From humble beginnings as a computer programmer, Fiona soon realised she preferred writing copy to code and made the transition to the world of corporate publishing, events and PR where her creative talents were put to better use.

Strategic marketing roles followed with Sony Corporation, Dow Jones and Deutsche Telekom. Despite the excitement of working at home and abroad managing copywriting teams, international events and publications, Fiona felt she needed a new challenge. So she made a serious U-turn in her career to re-train as a psychotherapist.

Three years of blood, sweat and much self-analytical toil later, she launched her private practice. The satisfaction derived from seeing individuals develop helped Fiona realise that she would love to combine her experience in the business world with her understanding of what makes people tick – a perfect mix for the professional personal development offered by Impact Factory.

Fiona brings first-hand knowledge of the challenges of the workplace plus the ‘human factor’ to a range of courses including Assertiveness, Train the Trainer, Customer Service and Presentation.

She also shares many years’ experience of business writing for brochures, websites, reports and emails in our Creative Business Writing course.

Since joining Impact Factory, she has worked with many well-known organisations including British Airways, Surrey County Council, the Disability Rights Commission and the Office of Fair Trading.

If that isn't enough, in her spare time, Fiona has worked as a facilitator for a teenage pregnancy prevention programme which aims to bring self-awareness and emotional literacy to some of the most challenging teenagers in London. It’s tough, but very rewarding – not unlike working for Impact Factory!

A graduate in French and German, Fiona has found various unexpected opportunities over the years to make use of her languages. Two years working for Sony in Cologne in the 90s forced the dust-gathering German dictionary back into use, and a cycle ride around Saigon during her ‘mature gap’ year (some 10 years after graduating) left her heavily dependent on French and sign-language to get by.

In recent years Fiona has discovered meditation and is now a keen practitioner, striving to inject a note of serenity and calm to her work and private life. She has yet to reach enlightenment but is working on it.
