Bury in BloomBack in April Jo Ellen and her fellow Bury in Bloomers made a Pledge that this year would be the best ever and she and they have done it! Bury St Edmunds has not only scooped a Gold Medal at the Anglia in Bloom Awards Ceremony in September, but this week it was announced that Bury has been nominated to enter the hugely prestigeous Britain in Bloom.Jo Ellen says, "The last time Bury St Edmunds won Britain in Bloom was in 1999. We're going to have to pull out all the stops to win in 2007. Personally, I'm delighted that the shift in these big horticultural competitions is less emphasis on the splendour of floral displays and more on environmental awareness, biodiversity, community involvement and children. That's why we've been so successful this year. We're now beginning to rev up for next year with some new initiatives like helping a local housing association working with young people to reclaim a derelict site into a community garden."
